How to procure a private transfer business license in QLD

In Queensland, starting a business is a much simpler process when compared to many other parts of the world. Queensland Transport and Main Road is the licensing Authority that provides those who wish to start a transport related business with the Operator Accreditation.

Services such as tourist transfer services, accommodation transfer services, passenger services, bus services, etc. come under the general service category of the Queensland Transport and Main Roads department. So private transfer services such as airport transfers, cruise transfers, event transfers, wedding transfers, party transfers, etc come under general services as well.

A person who wishes to start a business in the general services may find the following steps to be helpful. (My Private Transfers don’t assure that it is 100% reliable info as the conditions may change time to time based on govt policy)

  1. Contact Passenger Transport office over phone (As there is no need to visit a front end office) and make a general enquiry.
  2. Get the application form for Operator Accreditation via email from the Passenger Transport office.
  3. If there is any challenge in getting the application form; you may want to visit the local office of Queensland Transport and Main Roads and ask for an application form.
  4. Fill and submit the application form for Operator Accreditation fee of approximately 150 dollars.
Note: While completing the form, you have to answer the questions such as routine check-ups that will be performed, etc. You may refer to the Accredited Operator Sample Checklists blog page.
  1. If all goes well you will receive a provisional Accreditation for 3 months. You can then start operations. Within the prescribed period of three months, you will need to complete the specified course by the Queensland Transport and Main Roads.
