When he first visited the Tweed Heads area in 1770; he almost escaped a shipwreck and named the place, Point of Danger. This point stands in the border of NSW and QLD by the sea side. There is a memorial built in Point of Danger in honour of Captain Cook.

The boundary street leading to Point of Danger in the twin town separates the two great states of Australia; NSW and QLD. One side of the Boundary street is QLD and other side is NSW. During summer months there 1 hour time difference between the two sides of the roads. Hence you can celebrate new year twice from each side of the street with a gap of 1 hour.
