The Byron Bay, a popular tourist destination located south of the famous Gold Coast is a beach side town.

Here in the Byron Bay tropical waters meets the temperate waters and this makes it popular place for scuba diving and snorkelling. The diving hot spot is Julian Rocks; part of the Cape Byron Marine Park, it is located very close to the Byron Bay Main beach. Between June and November, Byron bay attracts humpback whales. Captain Cook was only just over 50 years when he died, but he carved out for himself, an amazing life of exploration and adventure. When he first visited the Tweed Heads area in 1770; he almost escaped a shipwreck and named the place, Point of Danger. This point stands in the border of NSW and QLD by the sea side. There is a memorial built in Point of Danger in honour of Captain Cook.

The Cook Island Aquatic reserve is located in the Tweed Shire of NSW and is an environmentally protected special place. Entry to the Island is highly restricted, this being a breeding place for seabirds and marine life.

You can view the Cook Island from Fingal Head. This is a great view with flying birds around the island, the deep blue sea forming the background, surfers in the deeper sea by side and beautiful Gold Coast braced in the horizon.
Other than these feasts you may also see dolphins frolicking in the waves sometimes even amidst the surfers.
